Ninetet ( Yoshi's ) 1997, Vol. 4

The fourth double CD documenting the legendary five-day residence of Anthony Braxton's ninetet at Yoshi's in 1997. These performances at Yoshi's happened to be a milestone for Anthony Braxton in developing his concept of GTM (Ghost Trance Music). The line-up of musicians is the same as on previous volumes, the liner notes provided, as before, by Steve Day in the form of a listening diary.

Sainkho Namchylak / Jarrod Cagwin
In Trance

Recorded live at the Jeunesse Festival "In Trance" at the Theatre Odeon in Vienna, Austria, over two days in October 2006, this is yet another performance by Sainkho to marvel at and be amazed. The project has been inspired by the great paintings of Dunhuang caves in China. Beautifully recorded, Sainkho's overtones have never sounded so clear before and it is really difficult not to get into trance while listening to her singing. Jarrod Cagwin's percussion brilliantly complements Sainkho's singing.

Szilard Mezei Quintet

This is the second CD on Leo Records by the incredible new talent Szilard Mezei from Serbia & Montenegro. His first CD "Draught" recorded by his International Ensemble got in the top ten albums of 2006 by many jazz writers including Art Lange of Down Beat. The second CD was recorded live at the Cerkno Jazz Festival in Slovenia, May 2006, by his quintet. It consists of 11 compositions spread over 75 minutes. Szilard Mezei's music is full of power and passion, his viola flies and swings, and his motivators Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington would be proud of him.

The three virtuosos of the new music scene live and breathe like one organism to such an astonishing degree that their improvisations sound like meticulously rehearsed compositions. Achim Kaufmann - piano, Frank Gratkowski - clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet and alto sax, Wilber de Joode - bass, belong to the "older" school of Dutch and German improvisors. Seven pieces (60 minutes of music) were recorded live at different locations.

Tim Trevor-Briscoe (alto sax, clarinet) and Nicola Guazzaloca (piano) started playing together in 1999 in Bologna, Italy. Some pieces recorded here are totally improvised, others consist of written melodies or abstract ideas.Experience and friendship have, through improvisation, given rise to a unique dialogue which explores the musicians' shared memory and at the same time brims with individual creativity.

In Spring 2008, we shall have a very special release: a monumental edition of 9 CDs by Anthony Braxton entitled "Piano music 1968 - 2000". The edition will come as a 9-CD box with notes by Stewart Broomer. The project has been in the making for several years and now is entering into the final stage of production. We are planning to release it in February/March 2008.
The music has been performed by the Swiss piano player Genevieve Foccroulle and recorded in New York by Jon Rosenberg to complete satisfaction of Mr. Braxton himself.
Needless to say, it will be a limited edition of 500 copies.
